Jason "Jay" Nicholas

July 6, 1982 — February 23, 2018

Jason (Jay) Nicholas, 35, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 23, 2018, at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Jason was born in Richmond, Virginia, on July 6, 1982, to Dr. Steven Nicholas and Rosel M. (Martin) McAndrews.

Jay, a former entrepreneur of the street and aspiring rapper, enjoyed dropping sick beats, flat-brimmed baseball hats, and chilling with family and friends. Jay spent his free time working out, trying to “get swoll.” Jay was always “clowning around” and would brighten any situation with his infectious personality and witty humor. He was always quick to make himself the butt of a joke to make someone smile.

Despite Jay’s long struggle with drug addiction, his outlook on life was positive and he never gave up hope that he would one day be free. During his journey on earth, Jay touched many lives in different ways. He was always quick to help a friend in need and would threaten to beat up anyone who messed with one of his many sisters.

Jay wanted everyone to see him for the smart, funny, positive guy that he was. Jay’s life was hard, but his heart was kind and his devotion to his family and friends was strong. Although
Jay struggled, there were some great times as well. Jay had three wonderful children and experienced true love with his wife, Jenny. He made friends with everyone he met and tried to use his situation to positively influence others who experienced a similar struggle.

Jason’s father preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his step-father, John McAndrews, and his sister, Allie Hayes.

Survivors include his wife, Jenny Nicholas; three children, Hannah, Kaydence, and Kaleb; his step-children, Jack and Maddox; his mother and step-father, Rosel M. McAndrews and Richard Metzger; his siblings, Crystal McKinsey, Dr. Amber (Dr. Adam) Comer, Shannon (Christopher) Newbould, Gabriel Nicholas, Stephanie (Maher) Abou Haidar, and Krista Kefauver; his step-siblings, Amy Beth (Jerrod) Barber, Michelle Dawn (Jeffrey) Pope, and Zach (Amy) McClellan; his step-mother, Julia Nicholas, and his maternal grandfather, John McAndrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Jason Nicholas from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S.
