Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Finney

June 1, 1951 — February 5, 2022

Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Hermann) Finney, 70, passed away at her residence on the morning of February 5, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beth was born on June 1, 1951, to Richard W. and Marianne D. (Lowe) Hermann in Indianapolis.

For primary school, Beth attended St. James Catholic School. Beth went on to graduate from St. Agnes Academy in 1969. She later attended Ball State University studying education where she met her husband, Jack C. Finney. The two were wed July 16, 1970, in the Blessed Sacrament chapel in SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis. For some years, Beth worked for the Indianapolis Public Library, as well as a teacher’s aide.

If you knew Beth, you knew she was an extremely compassionate person with an open heart. An avid reader, Beth loved to read any book based on history. Her ability to crochet, quilt, and needlepoint were unsurpassed. She loved all, but above all Beth deeply loved her grandchildren and pets. Passionate about sports, you could find Beth cheering on the Indiana Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts. Beth was very strong in her Catholic faith. Although her presence and gentle spirit will be deeply missed, her family knows she is pain-free and at peace.

Beth was preceded in death by her father, Richard W. Hermann; her siblings, Richard “Rick” J. Hermann, Suzanne “Suzy” Sahm, and Robert J. Hermann; and her infant daughter, Megan E. Finney.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jack C. Finney; children, Michael (Tricia) Finney of Evansville, Erin Finney of Indianapolis, Jacqueline Finney of Greenwood, and Timothy (Lucy) Finney of Lexington, Kentucky; her mother, Marianne Hermann, age 92, of Indianapolis; sisters, Donna J. Williams of Indianapolis and Dolores (Mark) Thie of Shelbyville; her grandchildren, Morgan, Madison, Kristofer, Kody, Evie, Kora, Colin, Donovan, Kyle, Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Karlie, James, and another expected in late April; and her canine companion, Duke.
