Max E. Miller

November 22, 1929 — May 28, 2021

Max E. Miller, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away at his residence on May 28, 2021. Max was born on November 22, 1929 in Indianapolis to the late Dora (Stephens) and Frank M. Miller. On September 2, 1950 Max wed Geraldine Bender in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Geraldine preceded her husband in death on February 8. 2009.

Max graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in the class of 1947, as well as attending Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. Max proudly served his nation in the Army. After nearly 30 years of service to the company, Max retired in 1985 from Western Electric where he worked in management. A hard worker, Max went on to work for AT&T after his retirement as a consultant which led him and his wife to live in Singapore for nearly 2 years during his tenure with the company. After retiring from AT&T, Max stayed active in the AT&T Pioneers, a group of retired employees who enjoyed staying connected socially.

A man of faith, Max was a devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Max had a generous heart; he was active in the Special Olympics and volunteering his time as a CYO coach. Max enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of the Smock Men’s Golf Club. Geraldine and Max delighted in many years of travelling abroad, their destinations include Australia, Singapore, England, Fiji, France, and Ireland. If Max was not travelling or volunteering his time, he was either working in his yard or spending time with his family. Max was adamant about never missing a race day spent with his family. Max had an ability to be silly, while also being an extremely compassionate man. His fun-loving, kind spirit will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Along with his wife and parents, Max was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Glenn, Frank, Don, and Herbert Miller, and his sister, Helen Bales.

Survivors include his children, Edward Miller, James “Jim” (Cynthia) Miller, Mary (Tony) Bomar, Don (Lori) Miller; a brother, William (Betty) Miller; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
