Stephen L. "Steve" Pitts

Stephen L. “Steve” Pitts, 58, of Indianapolis, passed away as a result of a kayaking accident at Norway Dam in White County, Indiana on Monday, May 27, 2019. Born August 20, 1960 in Indianapolis, Steve was the son of the late Alvin L. Pitts and Patricia Louise (Kelly) Newman; his mother survives and resides in Indianapolis.

Steve was a member of the Laborers Local Union #120 and worked in construction for Smock Fansler Corporation for many years. He enjoyed volunteering at The Grace Assembly of God in Greenwood and spending time at the Slovenian National Home at 10th and Holmes in Indianapolis. Steve especially enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his significant other, Janice Weaber of Indianapolis; two daughters, Yvonne F.L. (Richard Barnett, Jr.) Schaefer of Indianapolis, and Samantha J. (Brandon Higgins) Hall of Spencer; his brother, Alvin Joseph Pitts of Indianapolis; sister, Patricia Y.A. “Angel” (Bobby Browne) Smythe of Indianapolis; his six grandchildren, Buzz, Andy, Mariska, Cora, Bella, and Zayne; along with his step-children and other grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Steve Pitts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Heflin Park, 4323 W. 700 N., Edinburgh, Indiana 46124. Final care and cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis.
