Cornelius “Bud” Carr, 86, longtime Indianapolis resident, passed away at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center on August 16, 2024. Mr. Carr was born in Indianapolis on June 3, 1938, to the late John and Bridget (McCahill) Carr. He married Katherine “Kay” (Fox) Carr on February 11, 1961, and she survives.
Mr. Carr graduated from Emmerich Manual High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Conrail after 29 years of dedicated employment as a car inspector. A devout Catholic, Bud was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Msgr. M. Downey Knights of Columbus Council #3660. He was also a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. Bud enjoyed traveling, especially to his beloved Ireland, and was strongly devoted to his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John, Francis, and James Carr; sisters, Mary Casler, Susan Fox, Josephine Belyea, and Theresa Carr.
Survivors include his wife, Kay; children Cori (Ralph), Claire, Todd (Beth), Con (Sarah), and Dr. Frank (Laura); grandchildren, Candice and Eleanor; great-grandchildren, Caydance and Peyton; sisters, Sr. Theresa Clare Carr, S.P. and Catherine Warren; brothers, Rev. Dr. Michael Carr and Edward Carr.
Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2024, 6 to 8 p.m., at the O’Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 S. East Street, Indianapolis. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Fr. Thomas Fox, OFM, presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
