Dessie Dean (Key) Dye

Dessie Dean (Key) Dye, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 22, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis after a courageous battle with her health. Dessie was born in Burkesville, Kentucky on June 3, 1936, to the late Lonzie and Edna (Bolton) Davidson.

A wonderful wife and mother, Dessie was a proud homemaker. She was an incredible cook, known for her delectable southern dishes such as her chocolate gravy paired with her homemade biscuits and fried chicken. Dessie was such a good cook, that she and her husband, Lyle owned a restaurant in Kentucky for several years that was always filled to the brim with customers who couldn’t wait to delight in her cooking.

Overall, Dessie was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all of those she leaves behind.

Dessie was preceded in death by both of her parents, Lonzie and Edna (Bolton) Davidson; her dear husbands, Chester Brackin, Sr., Lyle Key, and Wayman Dye; her siblings; Paul Davidson, Ocie Norris, and James Davidson.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Chester J. Brackin, Jr. (Elizabeth) and Jackie Smith (Robert); her stepchildren, Rick Dye and Donna Eakle; her grandchildren, Penny, Angie, Melissa, Amie, Annie, Jimmy, Paul, Aubrey, Cassandra, Stacey, Whitney, and Steven; a host of step grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Dessie’s friends and family will gather for the visitation on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, in the funeral home.
