Margaret E. Dinkins

Margaret E. Dinkins, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away in the early morning hours of January 31, 2020. Margaret was born on April 9, 1933 in Simpson county, Kentucky to the late Herman and Lola (Rippy) Kennedy.

Margaret was employed at Sears for over 20 years in catalog and retail sales. A woman of faith, Margaret was a very active member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church; she spent many hours volunteering in the food pantry there. Passionate about politics, Margaret enjoyed working the polls during election time. When Margaret was not volunteering at church or working the polls, she could be found gardening or making crafts. Known as everyone’s grandma, Margaret did not know a stranger; she loved her family and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who had the chance to know and love her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Dinkins, Sr.; her son, Phillip D. Dinkins; and her siblings, Ernest Kennedy and Jesse-Marie Johnson.

Survivors include her sons, James D. (Linda) Dinkins, Jr. and Glen D. (Mary) Dinkins; a daughter-in-law, Linda Dinkins; sisters, Thelma Dinkins, Hazel Kenndell, and Barbara O’Neil; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be Monday, February 3, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 P.M. on Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Stephens and Pastor Billy Davison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mt. Zion General Baptist Church food pantry; envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
