Mary Elizabeth (Day) Kirby, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away at Franciscan Health on December 10, 2021. Mary was born on February 26, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Virgil and Josephine (Beaver) Day. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School in the class of 1958 and went on to graduate from Royal Beauty Academy in the class of 1962.Mary was an accounting administrator for the Salvation Army for over 25 years, retiring from there. Most recently, Mary served as the Director of the Resident Council at Forrest Creek Village in Indianapolis where she lived.
When not with her family or working it wasn’t uncommon to find Mary with a Stephen King novel in her hand or watching a movie from her DVD collection; she especially enjoyed any movie that provided lots of suspense! Sewing, knitting, quilting, and crocheting were also treasured hobbies for Mary. A sense of strong will and strength were notable traits that she possessed. Above all, Mary had an extremely generous and loving spirit with a sense of compassion that will be dearly missed.
Along with both of her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Joann Vaught, Ernest Day, and Sue Cloud.
Survivors include her children, Douglas S. Kirby, Deborah L. Scott, Lana “Michelle” Cloud, and Lora E. Godme; her grandchildren, Timothy Kirby, Reegen Gambles, Brittney Montgomery, Samantha Kikendall, Rayvan Scott, Devon Cloud, Donavon Cloud, and Anthony Scott; her great grandchildren, Maddie, Julianna, Charlotte, Isabella, Roman, Isley, Rosie, Alani, Rilynn, Isla, and another on the way; her sisters, Doris Lyng and Sharon Lowry; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Family and friends will gather for the visitation on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM in the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. A time for sharing memories, reflections, and fellowship will begin at 4:00 PM on Wednesday in the funeral home.
