Brian Robert Morris

January 22, 1971 — October 29, 2022

Brian Robert Morris, 51, of Indianapolis, passed away in the early morning hours of October 29, 2022, after a courageous battle with esophageal and lung cancer. Brian was born on January 22, 1971, in Beech Grove, Indiana to Paul and Janice C. (Matthews) Morris; Janice preceded her son in death. On April 6, 2002, Brian wed Jennifer Marie Robertson in St. Jude Catholic Church; Jennifer survives.

Brian attended Holy Name and St. Jude Elementary Schools. He graduated from Roncalli High School in the class of 1989 where he was active in the show choir and ran sound for many school events.

Brian went on to attend IUPUI and then became a police officer through the 89th Indianapolis Police Department recruit class. He also graduated from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Leadership Academy session 2020-10. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Brian was the 2002 Indianapolis Police Department North District Officer of the Year and this year he was named the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Master Detective. Brian served on the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department for 24 and a half years.

A man of faith who loved his parish, Brian was a devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church where he was active in the Men’s Club and was named the 2022 St. Jude Men’s Club Member of the Year. Brian enjoyed volunteering with Anna’s Celebration of Life Foundation. In 2021, Brian received Anna’s Celebration of Life Excellence Award for his service to the foundation. Other awards include Best in Show for the 2015 Marion County Prosecutor’s Office Chili Cook-Off and the 2017 Zeus Award from Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Brian also received the 2022 Service to Mankind Award from the Sertoma Club of North Downtown Indianapolis.

Brian was the owner of FMX DJs and was the DJ for many events around the city. When not working or at church, Brian loved to spend time with his family. Bowling, playing golf, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football were all things that Brian enjoyed. Brian had a great sense of humor and could make the whole room laugh. Brian’s wife, two children, and many nieces and nephews were incredibly important to him. His sharp sense of humor, ability to make a friend wherever he went, “life of the party” persona, and servant’s heart will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Jennifer M. (Robertson) Morris; his two children, Samuel Robert Morris and Hannah Marie Morris; his father, Paul Robert Morris; his siblings, Julie (David) Parker, Kevin (Angie) Morris, and Jason (Lindsey) Morris; his in-laws, Jack and Rozanne (Davis) Robertson; sister-in-law, Anne Marie (Jason) Moyars; 11 treasured nieces and nephews; 2 great nephews; a host of friends, extended family members, and fellow IMPD officers.
