Barbara Dickey

Barbara (Shackelford) Dickey, 91, passed away on her birthday, February 12, 2021. Barbara was born February 12, 1930, in Indianapolis, to the late Charles and Frances Lorraine (Burton) Shackelford.

She graduated from Washington High School and married Jack Dickey in 1949. Because of her excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, she enjoyed a successful career as the school secretary at Perry Central Junior High and later at Keystone Middle School, from where she retired in 1995. Barbara was a longtime member of Southport United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, domestic and international travel, but her greatest and most enjoyable hobby was her family. She was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and even a great great grandmother who loved unconditionally. Barbara will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her sweet and thoughtful demeanor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jack Dickey and her brother, Charles David Shackelford.

Survivors include her children, Steve (Shirley) Dickey, Carol (Donell) Mize, and Laura (Don) Stuart; nephew, Tom (Betty) Pedigo; sister, Phyllis Janet Paulsen; grandchildren, Leslie Mickey, Erica Howard, Brandon Dickey, Justin Mize, Aaron Dickey, and Jacob Dickey; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren.

Barbara’s Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when gatherings are safer. Memorial contributions may be made to Southport United Methodist Church.
