Diane Marie Swayze, 66, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 24, 2022, at her residence after a long and courageously fought battle with breast cancer. Diane was born on October 7, 1955, in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Joe and Norma (Tromley) Hunckler.
On August 19, 1978, Diane wed Robert W. Swayze, Jr. in St. John Catholic Church in Vincennes. Shortly after, the pair moved to Indianapolis beginning their careers and raising their family. This loving marriage produced their two children, Allison and Robert “Robbie” Swayze, III.
Diane graduated from Rivet High School in the class of 1974 and went on to attend Vincennes University and then completed X-ray school through Good Samaritan Hospital. Spending most of the last 43 years of her life in Indianapolis, Diane was a dedicated mammographer and X-ray technician at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis for 23 years, retiring in 2012.
Extremely prayerful and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Diane was a devoted Catholic. She shared her faith with her friends and family fervently, always known for sending her morning prayer text out and praying the Rosary.
Diane loved entertaining friends and family by the pool at her home in the company of her beautiful flowers. She truly enjoyed creating pots of varying assortments all around the poolside landscape. Taking her “tinkering trips” to HomeGoods with her daughter, Allison, were enjoyable for Diane, along with numerous trips to warmer destinations with her family. Above everything, Diane was happiest when she was with her grandchildren. Her faithful and caring spirit will be dearly missed by all of those she leaves behind.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Robert W. “Bob” Swayze, Jr.; her children, Allison (James) Putnam and Robbie (Janelle) Swayze; her beloved grandchildren, Luke, Lauren, and Logan Swayze; her brothers, David (Carol) Hunckler and Bryan (Carol) Hunckler; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
