John M. Higgins

John M. Higgins, 85, died peacefully at his home on December 30, 2018. An Indianapolis native, John was the youngest son of Mary and Patrick Higgins. John attended Xavier University, was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, with the United States Army and then earned his law degree from Indiana University School of Law. John worked for RCA and retired from the Veterans Administration after 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Robert, William, Donald, and Fr. James Higgins.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte (Otte) Higgins; their children, Anne Edwards (Jeff), Carole Morris (Larry), Chuck Higgins (Alesha), Mike Higgins (Virginia Renz) and Jeanne Bergin (Michael); 17 grandchildren; one great grandchild with another on the way.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 3, 2019, 3 to 7 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, January 4, 2019, at St. Roch Catholic Church, 3600 Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Little Sisters of the Poor, or to a favorite charity.
