Joseph V. Hanley, 90, lifelong Indianapolis resident, passed away January 18, 2021. Mr. Hanley was born May 20, 1930, to the late Maurice and Helen Agnes (Bloom) Hanley.
Joe graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. With a strong work ethic, he began a career in the construction field with Thompson Construction as an oiler. He retired 35 years later at the age of 62 as the President of the company. Never one to sit still, Joe founded Hanley & Associates and later Veterans Design & Construction Services LLC; he retired at the age of 90 in December of 2020. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and St. Barnabas Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Lawrence; brother, Paul Hanley; sisters, Patricia Spicklemire, Alice Haupt, and Mary Ellen Keegan.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Werner) Hanley; daughters, Linda (Dan) Bourne, Debbie (Jim) Mills; son, Michael (Tammy) Hanley; son-in-law, David Lawrence; brother, John Hanley; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, January 22, 2021, 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East Street, followed by prayers at 11:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 Noon, in St. Barnabas Catholic Church. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting www.vimeo.com/stbindy. Entombment will be at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, with military honors offered by the United States Marine Corp.
