Nathan Philip Milto
24, Greenwood, passed away December 28, 2018. The oldest of 4 children, Nathan was born on June 29, 1994 in Indianapolis to Philip and Tricia (Wood) Milto. In addition to his parents other survivors include his brothers Nicholas, P.J., and Joey.

Nathan was afflicted with a rare genetic disorder called Late Infantile Batten disease. The Nathan’s Battle Foundation was formed to develop therapies for this disease. Scientific research around the country was performed in many different therapeutic approaches. Nathan was the reason for the research. Nathan was one of the first participants in the first human gene therapy clinical trial for this disease. Other therapeutic developments were spawned from this research directly and indirectly leading to FDA approved drugs for this disease. Nathan was a true champion for this disease leading the way for therapies helping future generations of afflicted children to have therapy possibilities. Nathan is a hero to many. A disease that was once thought incurable now has therapy options. Nathan may have lost his battle but has helped to win the war against this disease.

Nathan was a kind, loving, happy boy with an infectious smile that would light up the room. His big brown eyes could melt your heart as soon as you saw him. He made the world a better place. He taught all who knew him many life lesson and was an inspiration to all. He attended the Indiana School for the Blind and his family is members of St. Barnabas Church.

Nathan is also survived by his grandparents, Wilma McDermott and Dick (Debby) Wood. His Aunts and Uncles, Joanna Milto-Bergin (Kevin Bergin), Jodi Milto (JD Miller), Tony (Angela) Milto, Rosemarie Milto, Stacey (Keith) Pennington and his cousins, Anthony, Sophia and Pauly Milto, Dominic St. Peters, Alyssa Pennington and Kelsey (Pennington) Shepard. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Philip and Angeline (Caito) Milto.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:30a.m. in St. Barnabas Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
