Robert A. Callon, Sr.

Robert A. Callon, Sr., 82, Indianapolis, passed away April 6, 2017. Mr. Callon was born January 8, 1935, in Indianapolis, to the late Harold W. and Gertrude Rose (Staab) Callon.

Bob graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953, proudly served in the United States Army, and then graduated from Butler University. He worked for Koschnick & Company for more than 35 years, retiring in 2000 as the business manager. Bob was a former member of Holy Name Catholic Church and a current member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church; he served as an usher at both parishes. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3660. Bob was an avid bowler and also a talented gardener, growing all kinds of plants and vegetables. He enjoyed playing cards, staying touch with his Cathedral classmates, and also an occasional trip to the casino. Bob will be fondly remembered for his dry wit and gentle personality.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael F. Callon, Marilyn Daly, and Patricia Campbell.

Survivors include his wife, Judy (Fleischmann) Callon, to whom he was united in marriage October 26, 1957; children, Robert A. (Cheryl) Callon, Jr., Catherine (Jimbo) Putnam, Mary Callon, Thomas Callon, and Laura (Jeff) Fletcher; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017, 2 – 6 p.m., in the Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St., Indianapolis, where morning prayers will be said at 10 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2017. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, in St. Barnabas Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
